On March 22 sometime in the last century, we won’t say when—my mother-in-law brought a bouncing baby boy into this world. His brother named him. It took another 18 years, but I found my soul mate. We have been together since high school and lived, starved, raised kids, fought and mostly loved each other in the same house for a very long time. I wouldn’t be who I am today without him. He supports me in my writing and is my best critic. He edits my grammar and punctuation. He takes care of me when I have a melt down and lose my confidence and celebrates with me when I succeed.
We became parents at an early age and raised two children who grew up without too many scars, mental or physical. His second love, after his family, is hunting and nature. He took me to Africa with him in 2000 to hunt Cape buffalo. I was the photographer and believe me we have a lot of shaky footage. I have African animal heads in my dining room.
Not everyone can say that (or would want to). I would never have gone to Zimbabwe without him. What an adventure! Just another example of something new I learned because of him. March for me was lucky when he was born. I was lucky to meet the boy of my dreams in high school and stick it out this long.
