Land of the Free… Because of the Brave

After celebrating the 4th of July this past Friday, my heart is full of gratitude for the men and women, and their families, who so graciously serve our country day in and day out.

I have a confession to make. Every time I see a service man or woman, I really want to go up to them and thank them for their service. But {almost} every time, I chicken out! I’m afraid they’ll think I’m goofy or I’ll fumble over my words. Silly, I know! But, it’s true.

Recently, though, my husband and I watched the movie Lone Survivor and it really made an impression on me. {It is quite graphic and is not suitable for all viewing audiences.} After watching that movie, I made a commitment to myself to thank every soldier I come in contact with from here on out. These men and women {and their families, loving and supporting them from home} are absolutely incredible. It may be slightly uncomfortable for me to step outside my comfort zone and walk up to them to thank them, but they consistently put themselves outside of their comfort zone {and often in extreme danger} to protect my freedom!

My challenge to you today, and tomorrow and the next day, is to thank those service men and women you come in contact with! We may not always agree with the political reasons that send our men and women overseas to defend freedom, but we must always, always support the men and women who selflessly serve our country!
