Not Doing It

Since we’re hosting our first “For The Love … ” blogging challenge, we’ll skip our Sunday Potluck this week so we can feature more original blogging from our fabulous Oklahoma Women!

Valentines

Valentine cards. You know those Valentine cards kids give out to their classmates in school? I’m not going crafty this year. Not happening. I’m tired. I’m busy. And my daughter would prefer I didn’t try to be creative this year. She’s dying to have the generic boxed cards with ponies, princesses, puppies, etc.

I always try to be creative and give out some new cute cards to her classmates. However, if you notice I just said “I always try…” Seriously. Diva could care less. I have always put so much pressure on myself to do fantastic Valentines. Last year I spent a week chopping crayons and melting them into heart shapes and sticking them to cards I made. Diva was less than impressed. She wanted to give out CareBear Valentine cards.

I must admit this decision to not be crafty has caused me to fight a battle within myself. I have this idea in my head that I want to be Super Mom. I want to have the sparkling house, dinner on the table every night, clean children, and have homemade goodies and crafts for all occasions. In reality I just hired my housekeeper back because I couldn’t keep up, I make dinner a few times a week, my kids are rarely clean. Someone always has something on their clothes, face or smells funny. My crafts usually look like a Kindergarten art project.

I do however have very happy children and I put a lot of effort into doing fun things and making memories. They don’t care if they have homemade Valentine cards for their friends. They want to enjoy Valentines Day and all the excitement that comes with it. So this year I’m not going to sweat it.

JaynaJayna Mayer blogs at www.wearegoingtobelate.com. She’s a SAHM to fraternal twin boys who are 2 1/2 and a daughter who is 6. She’s been married to Mr. Mayer for 10 years. Her life is a little hysterical, a little insane and a lot of fun.

  1. I blame pinterest. I get on Pinterest and see all these wonderful things I could do for Baby Girl, but who has time for that? Not me. I’ll take the CareBear Valentines cards as well. Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed it.

  3. More than once I thought of your blog this afternoon as my son and I worked on Valentines. They’re not even that crafty. Just getting him to write his name made me want to scream.
