Our New Front Porch

Growing up, it was a given that at any meal, we’d have a house full of people. The neighbors often found their way to our house for dinner. And sometimes, we’d find our way to their homes as well.  When we’d all have eaten, the kids would go outside and play and the grown-ups would assemble on the front porch to chat. The men would usually be closer to the garage, sharing a beer, maybe playing some cards. The women would be rattling the ice in their tea glasses sharing the happenings of their day. When it was dark thirty, we’d all make our way home and settle in for the night. We shared our lives with our neighbors in real time.

Now we have the internet. The downside is that we probably certainly spend more time online than we do in our front yards. The upside is that the world has become our front porch.

This past year, I was privileged to meet Mari. Mari and I had been following each other’s blogs, but didn’t realize who we were until two days after meeting–that’s how well we clicked. In so many, many ways, all the big things in my life this past year, have been because Mari pulled up a chair and sat beside me on my virtual front porch.

I also met Stephanie. I had been playing along with Arkansas Women Bloggers like I actually lived there and was excited to be sponsored to their AWB Unplugged conference. While there, Stephanie invited me to pull a chair up on her virtual front porch and start this little project. “I want to share this goodness with the women of Oklahoma.” Together we’ve been cradling the baby that is Oklahoma Women Bloggers and are so excited to share it with you.

Today, I’m thrilled to have y’all on OWB’s front porch. Pull up a chair, pour yourself a drink, and tell us your story. We want to hear it.

I am excited to be part of OWB! This comes along at an opportune time. Through a mistake of my own, I accidentally deleted my blog a few days ago. I’ve decided that this big lemon is going to be some fine tasty lemonade to share on the front porch, so I’ve expanded the purpose of my blog and have started anew.
