She’s Somebody’s Daughter

Oklahoma women bloggers have an opportunity to raise awareness about a special public service campaign.

Tonight, Oklahoma City residents will gather in Wheeler Park and a stand against pornography, sex trafficking and the over-sexualization of women in media culture. Wanda Pratt, better known as Kevin Durant’s mother will be there along with Congressman James Lankford. Together, we’ll all shine a light for daughters the world over who have been impacted by these awful things.

And, we are all daughters, and we have all been impacted.

Throughout the entire month of October, the message “She’s Somebody’s Daughter” will be featured on billboards and in public service announcements along with Oklahoma women and girls. The goal of the ad campaign is to start a national dialogue about pornography and how it destroys marriages, families and leads to further sexual exploitation. Governor Fallin is even on board with a special proclamation to recognize and acknowledge the dignity of every woman and child.

A companion website has been created to further support the campaign. It features facts about sex trafficking, pornography and sexual abuse as well as ways to get involved in raising awareness about these problems. It also features a special section on how to get help with sub-sections for men, women, spouses, families, pastors and the military, etc.

Please visit http://www.shessomebodysdaughter.com. If Oklahoma bloggers get involved in raising awareness about these problems, we can help increase the reach of this important campaign.

  1. Such a great post Jen! I was actually very close to this, in an observational way, when I was much younger and honestly it was the thing (if there is a specific thing) that changed my mind from what I consider the local meme to a more broad view of life in general. I will see if I can figure out a way to work this into my Crescent Roll Mummy post today! 🙂

This sex trafficking stuff scares the bejeebers outta me. I can definitely see it working with the Crescent Roll Mummy post. Girls like to eat them. =) Thanks Kelli and Cindy!
